Stakes-placed Black Mambo came through with his first winner when his son King Combo won June 20 at Calder Race Course. The Florida-bred colt won the 4 1/2-furlong race in :54 flat for Sharon Marable, Warren Cheekes, and Joseph Calascibetta, who trains the winner.

A half-brother to two $100,000-plus earners, King Combo is out of the winning Rollicking mare King’s Sweetest. He was bred by Dr. Robert J. Kitos and his wife, Belinda, and their Southern Cross Farm.

Black Mambo (Kingmambo--Lassie’s Lady, by Alydar) stands at the Appleton family’s Bridlewood Farm near Ocala, Fla. His fee is $5,000.
